Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s husband has clarified that the athlete has not recieved cash prizes and rewards after her return from Paris Olympics. Reports of various poltical parties, companies and institutions rewarding Phogat did rounds in the media earlier.
Taking to social media platform X, Phogat’s husband Somvir Rathee said that the news about the lucarative rewards was fake and claimed that it was a means to gain cheap popularity.

“Vinesh Phogat has not received any money from the following organizations, businessmen, companies and parties. All of you are our well-wishers, please do not spread false news. This will not only harm us but will also harm social values,” he wrote.
Vinesh Phogat suffered a heartbreak at the Games after being disqualified from her gold medal bout for being 100 gm overweight on the day of the weigh-in. An appeal was filed with the Court of Arbitration of Sport (CAS) but it went in vain as the court upheld the decision made earlier, depriving Vinesh off a well-deserved medal.
