Kane Russell scored a sensational brace as UP Rudras come from behind to safe beautiful win
Talk about a comeback, talk about making a point. And UP Rudras did exactly that. They stage a sensational comeback to register their maiden win in the Hockey India League 2024-25 season. The UP outfits went on to beat Vedanta Kalinga Lancers by a 3-1 margin to take the top spot on the HIL Points Table.
It was the Kalinga Lancers who got the first goal in the 1st quarter of the game itself. Enrique Gonzalez rallied hard to score the opening goal of the game. After a brilliant setup by Sanjay on the right flank of the game. Gonzalez with his cool and composed nature, put the ball into the back of the net to help the Lancers take a 1-0 lead.
Sensational Comeback from UP Rudras
UP Rudras tried hard but had to wait till the last moment of the 3rd quarter before they could get their hands on the equalizer. The UP outfits tried hard through the match but their efforts yielded no positive result. Eventually, a strong strike from Kane Russell in the 45th minute helped his side get the much-awaited equalizer.
Once the goal was scored, it was as if the floodgates had opened. 5 minutes later at the 50th-minute mark, it was Sudeep Chirmako who scored the second goal for his side as UP Rudras took the lead for the very first time in the game. UP Rudras showcased their brilliance as they went on to score two brilliant on-field goals.
And then in the dying minutes of the march, it was Game Set and Match as UP Rudras scored the third to seal the tie. Kane Russell scored a brilliant penalty corner as UP Rudras staged a sensational comeback to take the top spot in the Hockey India League.
