Trying to finish U.S. reign, GB&I takes lead into Curtis Cup singles

Nice Britain and Eire hasn’t gained a Curtis Cup in eight years.

That would change Sunday.

The GB&I aspect broke out of a tie Saturday afternoon at Sunningdale to take a 7-5 lead getting into the eight-match singles session. The Individuals have gained 11 of the previous 13 Cups – and three straight since GB&I captured the biennial match-play occasion in 2016 at Dun Laoghaire in Eire.

One other Scot, Lorna McClymont, and Eire’s Beth Coulter added a 2-and-1 four-ball victory over Anna Davis and Melanie Inexperienced whereas England’s Lottie Woad and Eire’s Sara Byrne improved to 1-0-3 as a pair this week with a hard-earned tie with Rachel Kuehn and Megan Schofill.

Woad and Byrne are the primary GB&I duo to play 4 classes and never lose a match because the format moved to a few days in 2008.

“No lead is ever sufficiently big,” GB&I captain Catriona Matthew stated. “In any form of sport, you’d somewhat be getting in 7-5 up than being 7-5 down.
