An thrilling Saturday on the Presidents Cup could have gone a bit too far, at the least based on Tom Kim.
Following a slim 1-down loss to Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele in foursomes, Kim accused some U.S. gamers of cursing at he and his accomplice, Si Woo Kim.
“Because it bought in the direction of the tip, it bought slightly feisty on the market,” Tom Kim stated. “I might hear some gamers cursing at us. That half wasn’t actually – I don’t suppose there was good sportsmanship there. However it’s all a part of the enjoyable. I perceive it.”
The Kims placed on a present all day, with huge putts and even larger celebrations, which reached a crescendo when Si Woo Kim holed out a flop shot for birdie at Royal Montreal’s par-4 16th gap to tie the match again up with Schauffele and Cantlay – after which ran across the inexperienced whereas doing Steph Curry’s night-night gesture.
When Cantlay drained a birdie on the final to win the match, either side cordially exchanged handshakes and there, at the least on TV, was not the looks of any pressure.
“You see me on the market throwing fist pumps and leaping on the inexperienced. It’s all a part of it, I get it,” Tom Kim added. “I simply don’t suppose there’s a necessity to take a look at somebody and curse at them. I simply don’t suppose there’s a necessity for it. I perceive it. I don’t get harm about it. My emotions don’t harm in any respect. I hope there’s no destructive feedback. That’s not what I’m making an attempt to do right here.”
Neither Kim was requested to expose particulars about which gamers had been shouting the expletives. Schauffele was requested about it in his press convention, to which he responded, “I imply, I can communicate for myself. I felt like Pat and I, we handled the Kims with the utmost respect. Golf Channel’s Todd Lewis caught up with Tom Kim later, and Kim confirmed to him that he did, actually, hear some “PG, inflammatory” feedback directed at them from the “American group.” Lewis added that Kim didn’t present names, although he did verify that the feedback didn’t come from Schauffele, Cantlay or both of their caddies, Austin Kaiser and Joe LaCava.
Golf Channel’s Rex Hoggard added that he believes the incident Kim was talking about occurred on the eleventh gap, the place some members of the U.S. contingent following contained in the ropes had been being “very loud, very vocal” towards Tom Kim.
