A report has make clear why the likes of Shreyas Iyer and Arshdeep Singh have not been included within the India A squad
Shreyas Iyer was among the few noticeable exclusions from the India A squad for the UK tour that was announced on Friday. The 18-member squad, led bu Abhimanyu Easwaran, comprised of many Ranji Trophy performers including Karun Nair. A report has now shed light on the reason behind some glaring omissions in the team.

IPL 2025 playoffs played a role in India A squad selection?
As per news agency IANS, the BCCI had reportedly advised the selectors to avoid chaos by picking the India A squad based on players whose teams were out or unlikely to make it to the IPL 2025 playoffs. If this is true, then it explains why the likes of Shreyas and Arshdeep weren’t selected while members like Ishan Kishan, Dhruv Jurel and Ruturaj Gaikwad among others were included.
“There was a lot of chaos and hence, the BCCI advised selectors to pick the squad with those players whose teams are or highly likely to be out of contention for the IPL 2025 playoffs. The India ‘A’ players named in the squad are likely to leave for England on May 25,” said a source aware of developments to IANS.
Currently, GT, RCB, PBKS and MI are the top four teams on the IPL 2025 points table. These four sides are all but certain to make it to the playoffs. DC, KKR and LSG are also in the race. It is pertinent to note that as per the revised IPL 2025 schedule, Qualifier 1 and 2 will be played on May 29 and June 1 respectively. The Eliminator will be played on May 30. IPL 2025 final is scheduled to be held on June 3.
