Sea turtle hatchlings launched in Currimao bay, Ilocos Norte

LAOAG CITY, Philippines — A minimum of 35 child sea turtles from a guarded hatchery in a village in Curimao, Ilocos Norte had been guided again to the wild Wednesday.

Engineer Erickson Biag, Currimao municipal surroundings officer designate, advised the Philippine Information Company in a telephone interview that village officers of Barangay Paguludan are monitoring the pawikan hatchery.

He stated the most recent batch of launched hatchlings are on prime of the 32 hatchlings that emerged from the relocated sea turtle eggs final December, guarded to maintain them protected throughout excessive tide and defend them from predators.

“The pawikan eggs within the first nest had been laid final December and we’re counting 52 days for them to emerge and information them again to their pure habitat,” he stated.

Biag stated there are two extra nests on the hatchery and they’re anticipating them to emerge till February.

The pawikan hatchery in Currimao city was established final 12 months and the coastal villages of Pangil all the best way to Paguludan are thought to be pawikan sanctuary.

Marine sea turtles typically lay their eggs from nightfall until daybreak and the height season is from November to March.

The native authorities, via its Municipal Surroundings and Pure Sources Workplace, has been advocating for the caring of marine turtles in help of Republic Act 9147 or the Wildlife Sources Conservation and Safety Act of 2001.

This legislation prohibits killing, wounding, buying and selling, transporting, amassing, searching, gathering of eggs, destroying of nests or possessing marine turtles, and their merchandise of derivatives.
