Sanju Samson has scored 224 runs in 7 matches for RR in IPL 2025, at a median of 37.
The IPL 2025 is slated to restart on May 17, and the foreign players and the confusion surrounding their availability, has hogged all the limelight. As far as Rajasthan Royals is concerned, the team is already out of contention for a playoffs berth, so it hardly matters if their overseas resources come back or not.
Sanju Samson Joins RR After Break
Having said that, their skipper Sanju Samson joined the team late on Tuesday, and the team posted a video of the same on X. It went with a caption, “Our Malluminati is back!”
RR has played 12 matches this season, and as per the revised schedule, the team complete all their matches on May 20 itself. Coming back to Sanju Samson, even though he has joined the team, but it is still not clear whether he has recovered from his injury strain.
Uncertainty Over Fitness
This year, Sanju has played only 7 matches, where he has scored 224 runs at an average of 37, and in his absence Riyan Parag has led the side, while 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi has taken his spot as the opener. The clarity on his fitness will only come in the next few days, and had injured his ribs during RR’s encounter vs DC.
Just in case he is fit to play, it would be interesting to see if Suryavanshi will be axed from the XI or not. RR’s other opener, Yashasvi Jaiswal too has been in tremendous form, and has gone on to score 473 runs in 12 matches at an average of 43. So, it would only increase the headache for the management.
