Rodriguez hits P20/kg rice rollout: Why solely now?

MANILA, Philippines — “Bakit ngayon lang? (Why solely now)”

This was what senatorial candidate and former Govt Secretary Vic Rodriguez needed to say concerning the authorities’s rollout of P20-per-kilo rice, a key promise in President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s 2022 marketing campaign.

The rollout started within the Visayas on Could 1, whereas Kadiwa Facilities will start promoting rice priced at P20 per kilo on Could 2, in line with the Division of Agriculture (DA).

“We’re repeatedly being duped by the present administration, providing rice at P20 per kilo,” Rodriguez mentioned at a Labor Day rally with the Hakbang ng Maisug on the Liwasang Bonifacio in Manila.

“We ask: You’ve been in energy for 3 years, why solely now? Why now through the election season?” he added.

Rodriguez additionally hit the Marcos administration for social support initiatives just like the Ayuda Para sa Kapos ang Kita Program (AKAP) and the Help to People in Disaster State of affairs (AICS).

“What Filipinos want isn’t AKAP, isn’t AICS, isn’t the mere gesture of reducing rice costs to P20 per kilo just because it’s election season,” the previous govt secretary mentioned.

Rodriguez was Marcos’ spokesperson in his bid for the presidency and have become his govt secretary upon their victory, serving from June to September 2022.

Years after falling out with the president, Rodriguez launched a bid for a Senate seat within the 2025 elections, finally being adopted into the slate of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP), the celebration chaired by former President Rodrigo Duterte.
