The Women’s Premier League (WPL) is gearing up for an exciting player auction on December 15, with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirming that 120 players will go under the hammer.
WPL Auction: 91 Indian, 29 overseas players to fight for 19 spots
The player pool is diverse, comprising 91 Indian players and 29 overseas players, including three from associate nations. This mini-auction promises to be a crucial event for the franchises as they look to fine-tune their squads for the upcoming season after all the WPL franchises announced their retentions on November 7.
The auction will see only nine of the Indian players being capped and eight overseas players remaining uncapped. Most franchises have opted to retain their core teams, which means only 19 slots are available—14 for Indian players and 5 for overseas talents.
Gujarat Giants enters the auction with the most financial flexibility, boasting the highest purse of INR 4.4 crore. In contrast, the Delhi Capitals, who have been runners-up in both previous editions of the WPL, will have a more constrained budget of INR 2.5 crore. The auction will take place in Bengaluru, with the event scheduled to begin at 3 PM on December 15, Sunday.
