KKR’s Shah Rukh Khan concerned in heated argument with PBKS proprietor over IPL retentions

House owners of 9 franchises had been current within the assembly on the BCCI Headquarters, whereas the Mumbai Indians joined it just about.

The IPL retentions have become a contentious topic. In the recent meeting between franchise owners and BCCI office bearers on July 31, the discussions about the topic turned into a row. While many other things were on the agenda, like the impact rule and salary caps, it was retentions that got the blood flowing.

KKR vs PBKS at IPL-BCCI meeting

According to Cricbuzz, most franchises are against the idea of having a mega auction, which would mean that you’d be able to retain a small number of players. To remind you, in December, we are about to have the IPL 2025 mega auction. The one who voiced against the idea was Kolkata Knight Riders’ owner, Shah Rukh Khan.

However, Punjab Kings’ co-owner, Ness Wadia, felt that there was no need to have many retentions in the IPL and supported the idea of having a mega auction. At one point, the two owners went toe-to-toe, engaging in a heated verbal argument over the rule.

IPL mega auction’s future

One must be reminded that while the franchise owners argued about abolishing the rule, it’s ultimately the BCCI’s decision. If they feel that the mega auction needs to be done away with, they’ll do so going forward. This would mean that instead of having a mega auction every three years, we’ll have a mini auction every year.
