Shreyas Iyer’s unbelievable run in ICC tournaments would possibly give him an enormous weightage for BCCI to get him on the central contract.
It looks like Ishan Kishan isn’t getting his BCCI central contract back. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) threw a major surprise when it excluded Kishan and Shreyas Iyer from the central contract. However, the reports indicate that the southpaw might not be considered to receive his contract. However, the new Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain will certainly get back on the list that is currently being awaited by all the Indian fans.

Is Ishan Kishan underserving?
BCCI rejected both Iyer and Kishan for not prioritizing domestic cricket when they were away from international cricket. But that’s a different case altogether. Fast forward now, have the two really done enough to stake their claim on the contract? Well, Shreyas Iyer has but not Ishan Kishan, as per a BCCI official.
“He (Ishan Kishan) still has to wait for his return in central contracts. He has worked on sorting out issues but has not done enough to be get his position back,” a source told Sports Tak.
Kishan last played for India back in October 2023. He was part of the ODI World Cup 2023 but managed to play just two matches before Shubman Gill recovered to get his opening slot back. Since then, seven different domestic competitions and IPL as well. Since 2024, Kishan averages just 28.04 in T20s. He didn’t have an ideal India A tour to Australia and Ranji Trophy as well.
Shreyas Iyer paved his own way
While Kishan hasn’t played a single international game since his exlusion from the BCCI contract list, Shreyas Iyer has. He has 11 ODIs, including six Champions Trophy matches, where he was stupendous. He hammered 243 at 48.60, including vital 40s in the semi-final and final and a fifty against Pakistan. This, alongside winning the IPL 2024 for KKR might have paved a way for Iyer to get back in the BCCI Central contract list.
The top brass of the BCCI, including head coach Gautam Gambhir and cheif selector Ajit Agarkar were touted to meet in Guwahati on March 30. However, officials debunked the rumours and now the meeting for the BCCI central contracts is delayed.
