Mayank Yadav was once more amongst the substitutes, ready to play his first IPL 2025 sport.
Lucknow Super Giants continue to wait for Mayank Yadav‘s return to full fitness after the speedster was named on the bench for the LSG vs DC clash. Retained for a massive Rs 11 crore fee, Mayank is yet to make an appearance in IPL 2025. The 23-year-old was also on the bench in LSG’s win over RR, but did not make an appearance as an impact substitute.
Mayank Yadav injury update: LSG wait for full fitness on star pacer
Mayank Yadav took the IPL by storm, making his debut for LSG last season. Bowling express pace and making the likes of Virat Kohli sweat, Yadav was set for stardom and a fast track to India colours. However, a series of injury setbacks have halted his progress. However, such was his talent, LSG were willing to commit Rs 11 crore to retain him ahead of IPL 2025.
Yadav was given the green light by the BCCI to join with Lucknow Super Giants on April 15. The Delhi pacer struggled with a lumbar stress fracture and was at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. His return was further delayed by a toe injury, making him miss the first few weeks of IPL 2025. However, since joining the team, he has yet to play a game, making the substitute bench twice. Captain Rishabh Pant has persisted with Avesh Khan and Shardul Thakur, and also played the likes of Akash Deep and Prince Yadav ahead of Mayank.
Will Mayank Yadav play vs DC?
Mayank Yadav was not named in the LSG Playing XI vs DC, but was amongst the impact substitutes. Before the start of the LSG vs DC game, he was seen marking his run-up at the Ekana Stadium. However, his involvement in the game would depend on how the game progresses.
Pant has opted for a bowling-heavy line up, with Shardul Thakur slated to bat at No.7. Should LSG batting deliver and not need an extra batting cushion, Yadav could make his first appearance. Should the hosts struggle, they could turn to Ayush Badoni who scored a half-century in the last game.
