Indian racer Kush Maini suffers tarryfying crash at Components 2 Azerbaijan GP

Indian F2 driver Kush Maini was concerned in a horrifying crash on the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, all drivers are unhurt.

Indian Formula 2 driver Kush Maini faced a huge crash during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix F2 feature race on Sunday. Starting from fifth on the grid, Maini’s car failed to launch at the start. While several drivers managed to avoid him, another car hit him from behind, leading to a severe crash that brought out the red flag immediately. Fortunately, Maini and all other drivers involved in the incident escaped unharmed.

Maini’s strong start turns into disaster

Driving for Invicta Racing, Maini had qualified fifth for the feature race. After missing out on points in the sprint race, he was looking to make a strong comeback. However, his hopes were dashed due to the early crash, which even saw some cars flipping over.

Other drivers were affected but safe

Spanish driver Pepe Marti and Danish-German driver Oliver Goethe were also heavily impacted by the crash, but like Maini, they avoided any major injuries. The incident once again highlighted the improved safety measures in motorsport, as all drivers walked away unharmed.

Maini’s ongoing journey in Formula 2

Currently in his second Formula 2 season, Maini is also a member of the Alpine F1 Team’s driver academy. With Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon racing for Alpine, Ocon is set to be replaced by Australian rookie Jack Doohan in 2025. Maini is aiming to secure a reserve driver position with Alpine for the upcoming season.

2024 season struggles

After a promising start to the 2024 F2 season, Maini’s form declined mid-season, leaving him 11th in the Drivers’ Championship standings. His teammate, Gabriel Bortoleto, leads the championship. The Azerbaijan GP feature race resumed after the crash and was won by Dutch driver Richard Verschoor, followed by France’s Victor Martins and Italy’s Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who is set to replace Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes in 2025.
