Paris Olympics: Bronze medal assured, Algerian boxer Imane Khelif break down in tears after securing semis berth, Lin Yu-ting to combat for gold too
Both IBA banned boxers Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-ting have made it to the semi finals. This means the duo have been assured of at least a bronze medal. Lin Yu-ting defeated Belgium’s Oshin Derieuw while Khelif went on to beat Hungary’s Anna Luca Hamori. The Algerian went through a flood of emotions as she broke down in tears after her win.
Both the boxers have been at the center of the controversy in Paris Olympics. However, now the duo will be competing in semi finals with eyes only for the gold medal. Previously, the IBA had banned the duo for failing the gender test.

Imane Khelif breaks down after winning quarter finals
Imane Khelif comfortably defeated Hungary’s Anna Luca Hamori to secure her place in the semi finals. But most importantly, after being subjected to online and worldwide hatred she broke down. Following her 5-0 victory, she was spotted thumping the ground before crying.
“There is not an easy pass in the Olympics, and I will try to be fully ready for the coming fight. I’m very proud of myself and my country. I fight for my country flag and for a sport I love very much, and I hope to be an Olympic champion after winning a first medal in Olympic female boxing for Algeria, for the sake of the next generation,” said Khelif after her win.
