A report has claimed that whereas Gambhir had reprimanded Morkel for being late for coaching throughout IND vs AUS Checks, the roles of Nayar & Doeschate are below BCCI scanner
Reports of discord in the Indian dressing room continue to emerge, with the latest one suggesting all is not well between Gautam Gambhir and Morne Morkel. A day after BCCI vice-president rubbished reports of rift between coach, captain and selectors, another incident from the recently-concluded IND vs AUS Test series has come to light. The incident was reported to the BCCI during the review meeting of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy that was held on January 11.
Rift between Gambhir and Morkel?
As per Times of India, Morkel was reprimanded publicly on the ground in Australia when he turned up late for a practice session. The report claimed that the ex-Proteas bowler arrived late for the session due to a personal meeting prior to it. Further, the report added that the incident forced Morkel to stay reserved for the rest of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
“Gambhir is very strict about discipline. He reprimanded Morkel immediately at the ground. The board has been told that Morkel was a bit reserved during the rest of the tour. It is up to these two to sort it out to allow the team to function smoothly,” a BCCI source told TOI.

Nayar, Doeschate under BCCI scanner
Further, the report claims that both assistant coaches Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate are under the scrutiny of the BCCI following the 1-3 thrashing at the hands of Australia in Border-Gavaskar Trophy. As per the report, the BCCI is planning to cap the contracts of the support staff to 2-3 years.
“Batting coach Abhishek Nayar is particularly under the scanner. Gambhir himself has been an accomplished batter. The board has asked the players if Nayar is bringing anything new to the table. Similarly, Doeschate’s role is being discussed. His lack of international experience and ability to contribute to enhancing an international cricketer’s performance is being questioned,” the source added.
