A former Nice Britain athlete has died on the age of 28, his working membership has mentioned.
Robbie Fitzgibbon, a center distance runner, represented his nation at a number of worldwide occasions.
His membership, Brighton Phoenix, described him as “one in all our most cherished athletes”.
An announcement mentioned he was “a buddy to many, and a supply of motivation for all who had the privilege of understanding him”.
It added: “Robbie was the epitome of a runner’s runner, embodying the whole lot we worth at Phoenix.”
Robbie Fitzgibbon joined Brighton Phoenix as a junior, and thru “dedication, relentless exhausting work, and dedication”, he grew to become a GB senior international-level athlete, the membership mentioned.
In 2019 he competed within the senior indoor European Championships, reaching the ultimate, and went on to compete in a number of Diamond League races.
His coach and mentor, Joel Kidger, mentioned: “Robbie was proficient however, much more so, a tough employee.
“He was gritty, decided, and normally received to the place he needed.”
Charlie Grice, his coaching companion, paid tribute, saying: “You have been a real fighter who at all times gave your greatest.”
In recent times, Fitzgibbon took a step again from monitor working, transferring from middle-distance to lengthy distance races.
He had been getting ready to run the 2025 Brighton Marathon in assist of the charity Thoughts.
His father Robin will now run in his place, the membership has introduced.
