With nearly a month left within the IPL 2025, it turns into necessary to see which groups can qualify for the playoffs.
Till now, 43 matches have taken place in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, and most teams have already played eight encounters already. Gujarat Titans (GT) sit at the top of the points table with 6 wins in 8 matches and 12 points. And they are closely followed by the Delhi Capitals (DC) with as many wins in as many matches.
So, it becomes important to see what these teams need to do in order to qualify for the IPL 2025 playoffs. Firstly, 16 points by any team will virtually guarantee them a spot in the next round; 14 would also do the job, while 12 points is where the NRR could come into play. Gujarat Titans Favorites to Qualify
Although the qualification has still not come, given GT’s tremendous form, they will most likely finish in the top 2 of the points table. Out of the remaining matches against RR, SRH, MI, DC, LSG and CSK, even if they lose a couple, it won’t hurt their chances. Two more wins will seal the deal for GT.
Delhi Capitals Will Most Likely Go Through
Two wins is all DC needs with six matches remaining. If the team somehow loses form and wins just one of the next six matches, they will still go through. And that is why it is important to get wins under your belt in the first half of the tournament. They have matches left vs RCB, KKR, SRH, PBKS, GT and MI.
MI’s Resurgence Visible
The team started out a little slowly but has won their last four matches. With the momentum on their side and given that they are still in the race, they could make the cut. In fact, they will be favourites to make the cut, as they jumped over RCB, PBKS and LSG, who too have 10 points. They need to win three in the five remaining matches. Two wins could also be enough.
RCB in race Too
RCB have won all their matches away from home and have at last won a match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Now, out of their remaining 5 matches, the side plays four at home. That could be bothersome for them. But nonetheless, even if they win two away matches, they will have 16 points and will be in an excellent situation to make the next round.
Toss Up Between LSG and PBKS
LSG and PBKS are at 10 points each. On paper, Punjab is a stronger team and could be in the race, but consistency is the key. Having said that, both teams need to win at least 3 matches to get a guaranteed spot in the playoffs. But that is easier said than done. MI will pose a big challenge to them.
KKR, SRH, RR, CSK Not Out, But Highly Improbable
These teams have obviously dug a big hole for themselves. While KKR and SRH are on 6 points, RR and CSK are on 4 each. Theoretically, none of the teams are really out, but given their poor performances, not much is expected. Let’s put it straight. KKR and SRH need to win at least 5 to be in a solid position, and RR and CSK need to win each match and then hope they qualify.
