Andretti hits pause on IndyCar staff partnerships

With Meyer Shank Racing set to go away Andretti Applied sciences on the finish of the season to align with Chip Ganassi Racing as its new technical service supplier, Andretti World COO Rob Edwards says the tip of the street with MSR may very well be the tip of the road within the brief time period for the staff’s technical alliances.

“The connection with MSR has been distinctive within the degree of belief and cooperation and simply transparency and all the pieces working with Mike and Jim,” Edwards instructed RACER. “So I don’t assume we’re seeking to do one other technical relationship only for the sake of doing one thing.”

Solid in 2017 by Mike Shank with Andretti World, Andretti fielded MSR’s first IndyCar effort as a further entry on the Indianapolis 500, and some years later, the connection — with new co-owner Jim Meyer included — resumed when MSR employed Andretti Applied sciences to steer its engineering efforts with individuals and componentry.

With the contract up on the finish of the season, and with the Honda-powered MSR wanting to make sure its IndyCar technical assist stays with a Honda-powered staff, the choice was made to interact Ganassi in a brand new multi-year deal.

From Andretti’s facet, Edwards says the continued rumors relating to Andretti’s swap from Honda to Chevrolet engines in IndyCar are unfounded, and with MSR’s impending exit, the roster of candidates for a brand new alliance is relatively slim in the mean time.

“Regardless of the paddock rumor that we’re about to alter to a brand new producer, we’re not about to alter to a brand new producer,” he mentioned. “And so candidly, that limits the pool of potential technical companions. At this level, there aren’t any plans to do one other technical partnership. However that doesn’t imply it’s not one thing that we don’t imagine has worth. We’re simply unsure that the precise companion is essentially on the market in the mean time.”
