Matheesha Pathirana’s remaining over throughout LSG vs CSK conflict was filled with wides, drama and a little bit of Dhoni magic.
It was a dramatic end to Lucknow Super Giants’ innings batting first against the Chennai Super Kings on Monday. Matheesha Pathirana delivered the final over for the visitors, bowling as many as 10 deliveries to close out the first half of the match. MS Dhoni showcased his wicketkeeping magic, Rishabh Pant’s innings came to an end as CSK restricted the hosts to 166/7 in their 20 overs.
LSG vs CSK: What happened in the 20th over?
With the score at 155/4, MS Dhoni handed the ball to Matheesha Pathirana to bowl the final over the innings. The Sri Lankan slinger started with a low full toss that went wide. He corrected his line right away, with Rishabh Pant playing a sweep to pick a single.
Pathirana again missed his length to go wide down the leg side. Abdul Samad and Rishabh Pant tried to sneak through a run, but MS Dhoni’s accurate throw caught Samad short of his crease. The very next ball Pant miscued a one handed slog, with Dhoni again taking a fine catch behind the wicket.
With Shardul Thakur the new man in, Pathirana again angled the ball down the leg side for a wide. He followed it up with a dot ball, nailing his line outside off. A slower ball outside off was well wide again, making it the fourth extra conceded in the over. The Sri Lankan then bowled length, with LSG picking two to mid-wicket. A surprise bouncer took the edge of Thakur’s bat and flew over Dhoni for a boundary. The LSG all-rounder was then dismissed off the final ball, with Shaik Rasheed taking a fine catch on the boundary.

Chennai Super Kings now need 167 to win on a tricky wicket at the Ekana Stadium. Rishabh Pant’s half-century took LSG to a fighting total, but with dew settling in, MS Dhoni and CSK would back themselves to see off the chase.
