Mayank Yadav’s historical past of accidents and the time that he has spent off the sphere greater than being in motion would possibly doubtlessly result in the tip of his profession even earlier than it began
For 22-year-old Mayank Yadav, his rise to fame and decline was as fast as his 150+ kmph deliveries. Touted to be one of the fastest and lethal upcoming pacers in the world, the bowler has been boggled by injuries ever since he shot to fame. As of today, Yadav is still recovering from a back injury he sustained in 2024. While he is expected to make his comeback in IPL 2025, his future looks very bleak, given the time he takes to recover from each injury blow.
Mayank Yadav meteoric rise & fall traced
Mayank was first picked up in the IPL auction in 2022 by LSG. Injuries, however, forced him to skip the tournament in that season. It spilt over to the next edition as well as he sat out owing to injuries. He made his dream debut for LSG in IPL 2024, grabbing eyeballs with his fiery deliveries and his ability to bowl them consistently. However, with great speed comes more risks. And that is exactly what happened with the pacer.

Injury after injury plagues Mayank
In his very first IPL game, he was forced to walk off midway through the game due to an abdominal injury. He returned in the next game, only to walk off once again after bowling 3.1 overs. Yadav was then sidelined for the remainder of the tournament due to a side strain. After spending months at the NCA in Bengaluru, he made his T20I debut in IND vs BAN series, picking up two wickets. Subsequently, he sustained a back injury that saw him being ruled out not only for IND vs SA T20Is but for a long span of more than three months.
Yadav did not play in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy or Vijay Hazare Trophy. He is doubtful for the second leg of the Ranji Trophy which is scheduled to begin from January 23. He won’t be a part of IND vs ENG T20Is either.
“He is suffering from a back injury and is unlikely to be fit for the England series. He hasn’t even been named amongst the probables of Delhi’s first Ranji match of the second leg against Saurashtra from January 2023,” a BCCI source said.
BCCI, LSG be very worried!
While Mayank Yadav did get a pace bowling contract from the BCCI after impressing with his ability to bowl at high speeds, he hasn’t been able to justify it, simply because of his injury-prone nature. At this point, one can only wonder if the young talent can sustain himself or is it all but over for him. LSG, too, would be worried after retaining him for Rs 11 cr ahead of IPL 2025 auction. Should he fail to play the full season, then the team would be left in a lurch.
